Sewing Beautifully, One Project At A Time

My hubby completing the job of my cutting table video helping out wifey.
As promised my husband said he would secure the top and i wanted wheels so here is a video update of the cutting table project. Enjoy.
With some fence post with bought from Lowes we secured the table top and we made the unit much more stable. We added 8 coaster wheels so I can move it at will now. The great news is you get your shelfs back :-) so now I have 3 shelfs to but my books and cutting tools on. yeah

My hubby on his first youtube video helping out wifey on my cutting table project.
Stuff you need; 5 shelf tall book case, counter top or large shelf top, hammer, nails and phillips screwdriver. This cutting table will come out at the correct height so you don't brake your back cutting out your patterns and projects. This project took about 30mins form start to Finish to complete. The book case cost $24 and the table top cost $9 so a cutting table can be had tiny budget as long as you have someone to put it together,

Hello my lovelies

I have just relocated from Hawaii to the Mainland, and it has taken me this long to get my life back into some sort of order.  I have only today got my computer up (I had to mail to my new house and that took ages to arrive)

I have my own sewing room and I am going to be doing videos and post on how I am organizing it and how you can do the same.
Airport in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii on our way to the mainland

I will be posting a video on how I have adapted a folding table into a cutting table, even though my husband is so camera shy he has agreed to do this for me.

I want to say thank you to all nine of my new Youtube subscribers, I will be posting new videos now that we have moved into our new house.

I love this machine it is so easy to use straight out the box. It has 16 stitches 3 of which our automatic button holes.

It also has an automatic threader which is a must, easy to wind bobbin and a drop in bobbin that is so easy to load.

I find this machine to be one of the best for the beginner. It is simple to operate.

Hello My Lovelies

Today I finally uploaded a couple of videos for my youtube channel.  It was so much fun doing them, I wonder why I was so hesitant to do so before.

I have uploaded my welcome to my channel video letting everyone know a little bit about myself, and my intention to build a sewing tribe that supports and inspires each and everyone of us to do our best, and to keep going through obstacles.

What sewing machine I use that is a good beginner machine as well as intermediate users.  I also shot a very quick video about how I organize my sewing projects and fabric hauls.

I really hope you find them useful and can get some good tips to help you stay more focused on your sewing projects and making sewing much more fun.

Hello Lovelies

Today I am sewing a simple chef apron just to see how my new sewing machine handles.  As you know I relocated to Hawaii from London, England.  Arriving state side with only 4 large suitcaseses.

We all know that is not enougth room to fit a lifetime inside, but I was ruthless and I gave away or threw away anything that did not cut the mustard.

All my sewing utensils had to be culled and I ended up leaving my Berina sewing machine and taking my Brother Annerversary I love this machine it sews like a star and I have had no problems since I purchased it.

Fast forward to live in Hawaii, I set my sewing table up I had cut my fabric and was all ready to go when......nothing, I know you know, but I didn't yes the voltage is different here so all that hard work getting my beautiful pink sewing machine state side was for nothing.

Undaughted I deciced to order a machine on line which i will be writing an blog post about soon.  I chose the Brother XR9500PRW.  This model was computerized had 140 stictches and had a quilting table to boot.  How could I go wrong?

Well it turns out quite a bit.  I am only beginning to see the problems now.  After using a test fabric to sample the stiches, I find that the machine does not want to sew a straight line.

What the Hey!  It was so bad I shoot a small video recording the antics of this horrid machine. will post that up tommorrow.

My advice NEVER buy a sewing machine on line.  Go to your local fabric store which sells machines and get them to give you a test drive of a machine in your price range.  I know they tend to be quite a bit expensive but it will be worth it.

If however you know your budget is tiny.  Try Walmart for a basic sewing machine if anything you can always take it back for a refund or exchange, they have a very good returns structure.

Learn from my mistake my lovelies.

Hello My Lovelies

Total disaster today, my sewing machine broke down.  I have only had it for a year.  I have stilted exactly  one project on it.  I was just going through the 140 decretive stitches on the machine when 20 stitches in the machine jams.

Not only that I have had so much trouble with the feed dogs on it, I know it must be faulty, from the get go.

Hello My Lovelies

As you know my Brother sewing machine bit the dust.  After only been in use for one year.  It was so distressing as you can imagine. I had just purchased a whole load of patterns and had them all ready to go, but then the machine died.

I bought the machine on line from Amazon, and at the time I was unsure whether to take out the extra insurance.  I called the insurance company to see what the benefits would be. After them listing the benefits when they mentioned  if any thing went wrong I could ship it back on their dime, and on that alone I took out the extra insurance policy.

It has come to my notice that upon the 357th day after purchasing your household machine it will promptly die after your one year company insurance.  Therefore my advise to anyone who has to buy a sewing machine online, (I recommend Amazon) please do not forget to take out the extra one year insurance policy to offset the cost of return the faulty equipment.

I am so glad that I did because to ship it to the mainland it would cost me more than the value of the sewing machine to do so.

Hope this helps my Lovelies
